ISTE Standard 3.5: Connected Learner

Practitioners of education stay current on innovations in learning. They regularly attend webinars, conferences and professional workshops. They carve out personal time for exploring new software or websites beneficial for students and the wider institution. Ideally, t hey often contribute to associations which provide avenues for networking. This thinking provides a high standard teachers should aspire to.

Budgeting effectively at the institutional level, allows implementation of positive changes for the technological landscape. 💰💲 At the personal level, shrewd budgeting maximizes one's ability to navigate continuous improvement systematically.  Educational programs can be expensive, however, the knowledge gained outweighs the temporary financial inconveniences. 💸

PLNs provide connectivity to trusted professionals. Educators involved in PLNs have access to relevant feedback on lesson plans, expert advice and supportive camaraderie. Members exchange knowledge about teaching methodologies, pedagogies and explore innovations in the field of education. PLNs are effective in maintaining professional growth.

Engage in Reflective Practice Reflective practice must be intentional and consistent. According to Slade et al. (2019), teachers should carve out specific times to engage in quiet introspective thought. Journalling holds the key to building self-awareness about why we make certain decisions.
